"I'm not who I was..."

I recently received a note that I wrote to myself 5 years ago in my Senior English class in High School. I remember thinking at the time how awesome it was going to be to look back at high school and see how much life had changed in the past 5 years... and boy has it changed.

One of the most interesting things was the fact that I wrote the letter to myself exactly 6 months before I met Blake--May 25, 2006. In the letter the first thing I asked myself was if I had a boyfriend yet (because in high school I never really actually had a boyfriend... it was probably better that way.) And wow -- now I'm married and in a house we own together.

I introduced the letter by assuming that I had just come home from a wonderful day at an elementary school -- pretty much true. I reminded myself of things I wanted to change within my family. I wrote about the "hot" topics of our community at the time... much of this has not changed.

What I really noticed about the letter is how much I have changed since high school. Looking back, I was a real bitch in high school (hard to believe, huh?) and that I've known that for awhile. The person I am now is so much happier, more compassionate, and understanding than the person who wrote that letter 5 years ago. The letter helped put that into perspective. I often wonder how I would get along with my friends from high school today -- most of them I don't even talk to anymore so perhaps that answers my question. But this song  struck me... and it's so true. I'm not who I was and I hope you can see that now.
